Sunday, September 6: The Jewish Community of Oporto welcomes the public for European Days of Jewish Culture

The Jewish Community of Oporto will take part in the European Days of Jewish Culture on September 6, 2026, an initiative dedicated to celebrating Jewish history, culture and memory across Europe. The programme will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will include free visits to community sites, book presentations, film screenings, a conference and a performance by the Mekor Haim Choir.

Throughout the event, visitors will be able to explore the Jewish Museum of Oporto, the Holocaust Museum of Oporto and the Kadoorie Mekor Haim Synagogue, including its Jewish Painting Gallery. The event offers a rare opportunity to visit these sites, as this is the only day of the year when the synagogue and museums are open to the general public.

This will be the fifth year that the Porto Jewish Community has participated in the European Days of Jewish Culture.

Conference at the German School of Porto

The 2026 edition will also mark the first participation of the German School of Porto in the event. The school will host the conference “Education, Memory and the Future: What Jewish History Teaches Us About the Making of Porto,” presented by historian César Santos Silva.
