On April 12, Cinema City Campo Pequeno in Lisbon hosted a screening of the award-winning documentary Love It Was Not, directed by Maya Sarfati. The session was attended by Or Marin, granddaughter of one of the film’s protagonists.

The initiative brought together more than 100 participants and was part of the Yom HaShoá Ve'Hagvurá commemorations. The event was also supported by the Jewish Community of Lisbon.

The documentary portrays a real and controversial story: the relationship between an SS soldier and a Jewish prisoner in a concentration camp during World War II. Despite the brutal context, the two lived a romance considered impossible.

Decades later, in 1972, they met again in a Vienna courtroom, where the woman testified about the former officer’s crimes. The trial ended with the defendant’s acquittal, adding complexity and debate to the narrative presented in the film.
