On Friday, November 26, 2021, the Portugal-based International Human Rights Observatory paid tribute to the victims of the Nazi genocide at the Holocaust Museum in Porto. Observatory president Dr. Luis Andrade presented a special certificate of tribute to the director of the Holocaust Museum of Oporto. The event was attended by 200 teenagers from local schools.

On the day of that ceremony, few in Portugal suspected that a significant partnership had been established between the Observatory, the Holocaust Museum of Porto, B'nai B'rith Portugal, and the Israeli embassy. The objective: the defense of Jewish human rights.

In March 2020, Ambassador Raphael Gamzou was a key figure in the strategy to defend Jewish human rights that was absolutely necessary in Portugal.

Several Israeli ambassadors to Portugal have taken part in joint Observatory and B'nai B'rith Portugal events over the years, as the protection of Jewish human rights is widely regarded as a fundamental component of global human rights. Particularly significant and related events marked six years of joint and promising work.

In January 2021, the Observatory and Ambassador Gamzou inaugurated the Entebbe Room at the Jewish Museum in Porto, so that everyone knows that Israel has the capacity to help Jews thousands of kilometers away, when needed.

In November 2021, the Observatory paid tribute to the Holocaust Museum in Porto. The tragedy did not occur in a vacuum. Historians agree that the systematic, state-sponsored genocide of six million Jews by the Nazi regime was the culmination of centuries of deeply ingrained prejudice, discrimination, and violence.

In March 2022, an event with Israeli security authorities addressed issues related to the importance to combat the woke system and to defend Jews and Christians to the world.

In September 2023, the Observatory and Israeli Ambassador Dor Shapira honored the legacy of former Israeli President Shimon Peres, an event attended by the Peres family.

In June 2024, the Observatory and the Israeli Ambassador to Portugal Dor Shapira hosted a high-level ceremony in Portugal presenting a book titled "Human Rights: Written by Young Jews from 40 Countries".

In June 2025, the Observatory honored former Israeli Ambassador Colette Avital for her lifelong commitment to defending Jewish human rights amid rising global antisemitism.

In July 2025, the Observatory and Israeli ambassador Oren Rozenblat hosted a ceremony to posthumously honor the late Entebbe raid commander Yonathan "Yoni" Netanyahu for his legacy against terror.

In April 2026, the Observatory praised Israel's Declaration of Independence, calling it a "foundational milestone for human dignity, civil liberties, and the right to self-determination". The tribute was given to ambassador Rozenblat.

It is rare. Human rights organizations generally belong the Woke system that is against the Jewish world. Antisemitic tropes historically portray Jews as wealthy and powerful rather than marginalized. These harmful stereotypes originated in the Middle Ages. Framing Jews monolithically as "oppressors" invalidates the real threat of antisemitic violence and conflates Jewish identity with systemic power.

In turn, the International Human Rights Observatory based in Portugal, has often notably praised Israel for its traditional values and its role in protecting the Jewish diaspora. Officials from the Observatory formally recognized the global significance of Israel's Declaration of Independence, highlighting the country's function as a cultural center for global Jewish life and its capability to guarantee Jewish security.
