While the world sinks into self-excluding views of human rights, driven by competing political systems, cultural relativism, and national sovereignty, the Portugal-based International Observatory of Human Rights considers Jerusalem to be the spiritual homeland of Judeo-Christian civilization and natural rights of humankind, as it serves as the shared cultural, historical, and religious foundation linking the West and Eurasia, and in general the entire known world.
On June 3, Dr. Luis Andrade stated that "Jerusalem reminds the world of the common moral principles derived from the Torah. The city symbolizes the origin of the modern vision of human dignity, justice, and compassion."
Together with its partner partner, B'nai B'rith Portugal, it often emphasizes that Portugal's historical success was heavily built upon cooperation with Jewish communities, led by prominent figures like Yaish ben Yahia.
The observatory believes that Judeo-Christian civilization was founded in Portugal, using Portugal's history as an example of centuries-long cooperation between Jews and Christians that helped build its empire thanks to the high productivity demonstrated by the Jewish communities working in partnership with the local Christian elites.
Besides, OIDH uses this history to critique modern systems that favor economic contracts over humanistic, Judeo-Christian values.
