Mekor Haim Choir Joins the European Association of Jewish Choirs

The Mekor Haim Choir has joined the European Association of Jewish Choirs on the invitation of its vice-president, Maestro Roman Grinberg, the conductor of the Vienna Synagogue Choir.

Maestro Grinberg recently visited Porto and attended a rehearsal of the choir in the Mekor Haim Synagogue. He was favourably impressed by the musical quality of the choir and the talent of its artistic director, Maestro Leonardo Mendonça, and extended the invitation to join the Association.

The European Association of Jewish Choirs (EUAJC) serves as a central hub for Jewish choral activities across Europe. It promotes the exchange of music and supports events that celebrate Jewish musical traditions. The EUAJC also plays a key role in organising concerts and choral festivals, which take place in various countries, including those where its members are active.

The Mekor Haim Choir hopes to participate in activities of the Association in the coming year and may one day host a Jewish Choir festival in Porto.

The next concert of the Mekor Haim Choir will be on Friday, October 23, 2026 at 14:30 in the Holocaust Museum of Porto. It will feature the Synagogue music of Emanuel Aguilar from the Spanish and Portuguese Community of London. Registration must be done by info@comunidade-judaica.porto.org
