Ten thousand books in a Jewish library is no small feat. It's not just a collection and repository for the study of great works and authors. Dozens of books are of their own production, given that the Jewish community of Porto is committed to disseminating its history since the time of its founder, Captain Barros Basto, the "Portuguese Dreyfus", himself the author of numerous works of Jewish historical nature.
In the 21th century, his granddaughter – who is Vice-President of the Community – and her entire team have continued the captain's legacy. Even the one century history of the organization "Comunidade Israelita do Porto" founded in 1923 was already published on Amazon during its centenary in 2023.
The next book to be published on Amazon is titled "The Soviet history of Abel Benjamin Rocha da Leiva Leja Rosa Abramovich". Publication is scheduled for August, with unpublished documentation and facts that history should record.
The ever-growing collection of the Porto Jewish community, which is now the world leader organization in the promotion of Jewish culture and history, cannot be disregarded and promises to continue to develop year after year.
