On November 27, the Jewish Museum of Porto will welcome 73 children, aged between 3 and 6, from Porto Montessori School, as part of the educational project, “An Adventure Around the World.”
The museum will be the first contact of the children with the Jewish world, as something important will happen in the near future. In November a journey will take them to Israel, which is not only the Jewish state but also the meeting point of Christian cultures.
The school has Israeli children among its students, making this initiative an especially meaningful opportunity for sharing, learning, and celebrating the cultural diversity within the school community itself.
The Education Department is adapting some of its educational programmes, developing an experience specifically suited to young children while preserving the richness of the content relating to Jewish history, culture, and traditions. More than simply conveying information, the visit aims to provide the children with their first contact with Jewish heritage through language and activities that are accessible, engaging, and appropriate to their age, encouraging curiosity and respect for cultural diversity.
The Museum is now investing in becoming a bridge for children to visit Israel. The board believes that those children will live in a world very different from the one they experience today and in which the Jewish state will play a truly central role.
