The week of Shavuot was not only a reason for historical celebration for the Jewish Community of Porto, as classes from Portuguese schools continued to flock in large numbers to the organization's museums.
The Holocaust museum had continued to focus primarily on the Second World War period and the fate of Jews at the hands of the National Socialists and Soviet Socialists who killed them in gulags even before the Nazis arrived in the Soviet Union.
The Jewish Museum of Porto has concentrated on teaching the history of Portugal. The future of the nation was the main topic discussed this week. Providing a high-quality education for teenagers is crucial for a nation's long-term prosperity and equips them with critical thinking.

Seven lessons:
Lesson 1: Far from beginning with the socialists fifty years ago, Portugal began with Jews and Christians nine centuries ago. Portugal transformed into a global world power in just three centuries when Jewish communities served as the intellectual and economic backbone of the kingdom, providing essential capital, seafaring technology, and astronomical navigation.
As strange as this comparison may seem, Israel became a dominant military, technological, and economic force—frequently dubbed the "Startup Nation"—in just over seven decades, driven by necessity, continuous innovation, and a strong focus on human capital.
Lesson 2: A nation's history, cultural roots, and religious origins should dictate its future, as its heritage are the bedrock of its stability and identity, and provide a moral compass and a shared sense of belonging, which helps maintain social cohesion. This would surely be the opinion of the Portuguese population if they were subjected to a serious referendum, free from bias on the part of the talking classes.
One again, as strange as this comparison may seem, in Israel, the history, culture, and values of the Jewish people are deeply embedded as central pillars of national identity, serving as a fundamental source of unity and progress.

Lesson 3: Today, in Portugal, Jews don't count, and Christians are ridiculed as if they were primitive. Crítics argue that the future should be shaped by contemporary values and changing demographics rather than historical origins. Proponents argue that basing a nation's future strictly on its past can lead to the exclusion of minority groups and hinder necessary social progress, ie, basing national identity on specific historical or religious origins can be divisive. As Portugal has historically maintained high social cohesion and low crime rates, a sudden influx of delinquent individuals or radical Muslims can generate significant social tension and pushback.
In Israel, there is strong public and political consensus against uncontrolled immigration and the entry of individuals who reject national traditions.
Lesson 4: Portugal is a country that has a promising future if it knows how to take advantage of the wealth of its diaspora and, in particular, the Jewish diaspora of Portuguese origin. Through this diaspora, Portugal can leverage its unique geopolitical and cultural assets to assert a significant role in global affairs.
Socialists don't want to, but they should be ashamed, because when Karl Marx was born the Treaty of Tordesillas had already been signed four centuries ago.

Lesson 5: Thanks to Jewish science and funding from the Age of Discovery, Portugal controls one of the largest Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) in the world. The expansion of the continental shelf should be an immediate challenge. By focusing on its maritime domain and its global cultural footprint, the nation will punch well above its economic weight.
Spearheading underwater topography projects. Hosting international oceanographic hubs. Investing in offshore wind and wave energy. Leading sustainable fishing policies to create global ecological standards. Etc.
Lesson 6: Portugal should make it a priority to create an Intelligence Service connected with World Novel Artificial Intelligence, which can be acquired inside the Jewish world and that be able to attract global tech talent. Right agents in the right places, not mediocre.
Lesson 7: Portugal should anticipate the next civilization in decades and remove the national elites who oppose Jews and Christians. Jews of Portuguese origin, residing on every continent, possess economic wealth that often exceeds the nation's GDP in several years, and it is not a great challenge to attract them to the country. Not by chance, the Jewish community of Porto is a world leader in promoting Jewish culture and the largest European Chabad Lubavitch Centre is located in Cascais.
