The façade of MEO Arena in Lisbon was vandalized with graffiti and inscriptions containing antisemitic and anti-Israel messages. The incident coincided with a concert by Jewish-American comedian Jerry Seinfeld at the venue.
The Lisbon City Council promptly deployed teams to remove the graffiti and clean up the public space.
In a social media post, the Embassy of Israel in Portugal publicly thanked the city government for its “swift and decisive action in removing antisemitic and anti-Israel graffiti and acts of vandalism.”
The graffiti drew strong condemnation on social media, with critics denouncing the hate speech targeting a major cultural venue. The incident occurred amid heightened security and controversy surrounding Seinfeld’s performance in Lisbon, which had faced opposition from pro-Palestinian activists and demonstrators.
