Israeli ambassador criticizes SIC Notícias over Ben-Gvir coverage

Israel’s ambassador to Portugal, Oren Rozenblat, criticized SIC Notícias over its coverage of recent remarks by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, arguing that the Portuguese broadcaster misrepresented the meaning of the minister’s comments.

In a video published by the Israeli Embassy in Portugal, Rozenblat referred to a SIC Notícias headline stating that the Israeli minister had “suggested killing Palestinians in Gaza every night.” The ambassador rejected the interpretation that Ben-Gvir was advocating the indiscriminate killing of Palestinians, arguing that the minister was referring specifically to operations against terrorists.

“I am not Ben-Gvir’s spokesperson,” Rozenblat said, adding that, in his interpretation, Ben-Gvir’s reference to people who “do not deserve to live there” referred to terrorists rather than Palestinians as a whole.

The ambassador also accused parts of the Portuguese media of maintaining an anti-Israel bias and called for greater accuracy in reporting Israeli officials’ statements. “The Portuguese media needs to tell the truth,” he said.
