An individual was sentenced today in Oporto's civil court to pay compensation to the Jewish Community of Oporto that made a claim for compensation of 300 thousand euros against him. The events occurred in 2023 when the author of the offenses, considering himself free to spread untrue facts on social media, acted as he pleased. Until one day he received an unexpected visit from the postman.
The Jewish Community of Oporto is an organization that promotes Jewish life, Jewish religion, Jewish culture, Jewish history, Jewish human rights and Holocaust teaching. In 2022 it also created a department called “Light and Justice” that aims to bring individuals and also organizations and states whose agents had fun slandering the community, to court. Some legal actions already take place in Portugal and in third countries.
