The Porto Jewish Museum now displays a letter from the B’nai B’rith World Center, Jerusalem, along with others from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the president of the Jewish state Isaac Herzog.
The B’nai B’rith World Center in Jerusalem plays a central role in advocating for global Jewish human rights, combating antisemitism, and strengthening ties between Israel and Jewish communities worldwide.
As the official Israeli hub of B'nai B'rith International, the world's oldest Jewish community service and human rights organization, it acts as a direct bridge between the Jewish State, its security services, and the global Diaspora.
"Dear Friends, we would like to show our support for the Oporto Jewish community following the shocking and unjust series of brutal actions against it, while ruining its reputation with false accusations. This astonishing totally unproven accusation was based on nothing other than the assumption that corruption surely exists when a group of Jews prosper. Today there are more than one million records on the internet that directly associate the Community with the word corruption. Has anyone of the perpetrators of this calumny already taken responsibility and held to account?
In a time like this, when Israel is at war for its very existence, and antisemitism is rising worldwide in alarming numbers it is crucial that we all stand together and support Jewish communities who are under attack wherever they are.
We, at B'nai B'rith, understand the horrific implications that will affect all Jewish communities if this kind of baseless accusations will persist. Antisemitism will continue to rise, and people's lives are at stake.
We say to the great Oporto Jewish Community, we are with you. You are not alone. Carry in with your wonderful work in Holocaust education and in the many other spheres in which you are active. You make us all proud.
