Turkey gave a new sign of rapprochement with Israel by appointing Sakir Ozkan Torunlar as its new ambassador. Between 2010 and 2013, the diplomat had already served as Ankara's consul general in Jerusalem.

The appointment comes after Israel appointed Irit Lillian as its ambassador to Turkey. All this is the result of a movement to restore full diplomatic relations between the two countries - which was announced in August of this year.

On the occasion, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid declared: “Upgrading relations will contribute to deepening ties between the two peoples, expanding economic, trade and cultural ties, and strengthening regional stability”.
