The war between Russia and Ukraine has dragged on for more than four years and has produced widespread destruction, especially in Ukrainian territory. Fortunately, the most imposing Jewish building remains unscathed and without a scratch. The largest Talmudic Centre in all Europe has not been struck by a single drone or missile.
The Menorah Center in Dnipro, Ukraine, managed by Chabad-Lubavitch, is widely recognized as the largest Jewish community center in the world. Opened in 2012, the massive 50,000-square-meter facility features a distinct architectural design composed of seven interconnected towers that resemble a Temple Menorah.
The complex functions as a "city within a city". It blends spiritual, cultural, and corporate infrastructure by surrounding the historic Golden Rose Choral Synagogue and housing the Museum of Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine, the Menorah Hotel, kosher restaurants, medical facilities, event halls, and diverse retail and office spaces.
The property acts as the flagship headquarters for the Chabad-led Jewish Community of Dnipro and hosts regional operations for the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine. The Menorah Center is deeply tied to and managed by the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. The concept for the center was originally envisioned and spearheaded by Rabbi Shmuel Kaminetsky, who serves as the Chabad-Lubavitch Chief Rabbi of Dnipro and the Dnipropetrovsk region.
The construction of the project cost approximately $100 million USD and was entirely funded by two prominent Ukrainian-Jewish billionaires who hold leadership roles within the regional Jewish community:Gennadiy Bogolyubov: President of the Dnipro Jewish Community.Ihor Kolomoyskyi: President of the United Jewish Community of Ukraine.Both men provided full financial backing to execute the development as a philanthropic gift to revitalize Jewish life and heritage in Ukraine.
Also the billionaire Timur Mindich was part of the board of the Jewish community in Dnipro. He served as a member of the board of trustees (fiduciary board) of the community and still chairs the council of the United Jewish Community of Ukraine. Mindich is primarily known as a Ukrainian-Israeli entrepreneur and film producer, famously operating as a co-owner and business partner of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's media production company, Kvartal 95 Studio. His mother, Stella Mindich, has also been recognized as a prominent board trustee and activist within the Dnipro community.
