On May 27, 2026, Judge Ivo Rosa, interviewed by journalist Sandra Felgueiras on TVI/CNN, accused the Public Prosecutor's Office of being the new "PIDE" (Political Police). A public outcry and extensive public debate were expected to correct the system's abnormality. But none of that happened, because the very next day a new issue arose, perhaps to hide that scandal. It was a criminal investigation that had been running dormant for years and years and that suddenly resurfaced. In fact, on May 28, on the orders of the prosecutor's office, four hundred police officers carried out a vast number of ostentatious searches targeting a scheme of trafficking in illicit favors within the Socialist Party. "Strange coincidence," says the journalist, adding that, on that same day, the Attorney General of the Republic, Amadeu Guerra, was going to parliament to give explanations about the terrible functioning of the Public Prosecutor's Office, but it happened that all the deputies were then watching, horrified, on television the developments of the operation underway at the headquarters of the Socialist Party.
On November 4, 2023, TVI/CNN exposed another scandalous case. Two Portuguese-Brazilian children, friends of the son of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, received hospital treatment costing 4 million euros, with direct illegal involvement from the Socialist government. A public outcry and extensive public debate were expected to correct the abnormality of the system. But no, none of that happened, because three days later, a new issue emerged to hide that scandal. Once again, a criminal investigation that had been running dormant for years and years suddenly resurrected. In fact, on November 7, police officers working for the prosecutor's office searched socialist government offices. The controversial case of the Portuguese-Brazilian twins was no longer discussed. "Strange coincidence," repeats journalist Sandra Felgueiras.
Jews also report “coincidences”
Judge Ivo Rosa complains of illicit acts that occurred in 2021 and 2022 at the hands of Albano Pinto (director of DCIAP), Orlando Romano (Lisbon District Attorney), Luis Neves (director of the Judiciary Police), Afonso Sales (police coordinator), at a time when Justice was overseen by Lucilia Gago (Attorney General of the Republic) and Francisca Van Dunen (Minister of Justice). Curiously, the Jewish Community of Porto complains about exactly the same protagonists - without exception - for illicit acts committed in the same years.
Ivo Rosa complains of a very suspicious "anonymous email" filled with generalities that allowed Albano Pinto to open a case against him for alleged corruption. The Community reports something similar: it was an "anonymous email" filled with generalities that allowed Albano Pinto to open an investigation for alleged corruption against the PT/Altice man, Patrick Drahi, accused of fraudulently obtaining Portuguese nationality.
Ivo Rosa complains that, in the years when he began to be persecuted by the prosecutor's office, he was the target of planted newspaper stories aimed at denigrating him. The Community reports something even worse, alleging that the Socialist government planted fake news on December 18, 2021, because it had an unconstitutional decree-law prepared to be approved, as it was, in the Council of Ministers previously scheduled for five days later, December 23.
Ivo Rosa complains that Albano Pinto opened illegal investigations against him, because an investigation can only be opened with a "report of a crime" that is factually and legally relevant, not with generalities and speculations. The Community reports something even more serious: Albano opened an inquiry against the institution when the government sent him the aforementioned sensationalist newspaper article, which falsely speculated against Leiva da Rocha Abramovich, alleging that he had financed the Holocaust museum to fraudulently obtain Portuguese nationality.
Albano Pinto opened that inquiry against the Community on January 11, 2022. On the same day, in the evening, the office of the community's lawyer, Mónica Gomes, who had never been robbed in her life, was robbed by professional thieves, who only took the "server."
On March 11, 2022, the Porto synagogue was illegally raided by the police, on the orders of Albano Pinto's DCIAP. The police frenzy to find the documents relating to Patrick Drahi was so great that they forgot about Leiva da Rocha's documents. And since Drahi was connected to the Lisbon synagogue, Pinto's hands were tied, because the government didn't want to be linked to the invasion of two synagogues. One synagogue was already enough, especially since it was the base of the strongest Portuguese Jewish community by far. "It's the Portuguese 'Rule of Law in action'," Gabriel Senderowicz, president of the Jewish Community of Porto, told PJN.
Nighttime robberies carried out by professionals?
On March 29, 2022, Sandra Perdigão Neves's house was robbed at night by professional thieves who didn't want money or gold, but Perdigão's computers, which were stolen during the criminal operation. She had ceased being the director of SIRESP seven days earlier, on March 22, when she was dismissed from her position by the socialist government. Minister Van Dunen was responsible for making this decision. A career prosecutor, Dunen had been the Minister of Justice for years and, for a few months, also held the portfolio of the Ministry of Internal Administration. It was during this time that the computer theft occurred.
The Attorney General's Office remains silent until today. Society remains unsure whether the professional burglars loved computers so much that they risked robbing a guarded house to steal two aging devices, or whether a political mafia orchestrated the robbery to achieve politically motivated goals. Perdigão Neves wasn't always the director of SIRESP. Before that, she was the operations director at Altice company and proclaimed in the mainstream press that "at Altice we are different, we take risks and we win!" It was in this context that Altice began overseeing SIRESP.
Assassination attempt?
On November 29, 2022, a tire on Ilan Cohen's car was carefully punctured so as to be on the verge of bursting while he was having dinner at a kosher restaurant in Oporto. Cohen was a young Jewish leader who supervised the second synagogue of the Jewish community in Porto.
After dinner, he went home on the highway, where speeds reached about 120km/h, and "miraculously the tire did not burst", Cohen said to PJN at the time. "Taking the VCI (highway), my car had trouble driving, and I was very lucky, I stopped and saw stab wounds in my tires."
On November 28th, the day before the facts, Cohen was the first signatory of a petition that 44 French students sent to the Portuguese parliament, which was then presided over by Augusto Santos Silva. The students' petition – which was reported in the international Jewish press on the same day it was sent – asked the State never again to illegally attack a Jewish community, as it had done months before with the one in Porto. In addition, Portuguese State was urged never again to cooperate with nocturnal burglars who broke down the doors of law offices and private homes to steal a server and computers, and with anonymous whistle-blowers who have spent time in psychiatric hospitals and sentenced in the criminal courts, in an attempt to incriminate people.
For these reasons, Ilan Cohen, the petitioner's first signer, said to the Jewish News Syndicate that "The discrimination of the inquisition, was not enough for them to stop there!" and he immediately suspected that the authorship of the attempt against his life came from "a criminal network to silence me through a fatal accident". He had been studying in Porto for five years and it was the first time this happened.
Despite then Ilan Cohen filing a police report, he has received no news about the matter to this very day. The authorities have not even notified him to be questioned as the whistleblower. Meanwhile, the damaged tire is on display at the Jewish Museum in Porto, in a room dedicated to modern antisemitism.
The case has since been reported to Mossad. The context in which all occurred cannot be forgotten or ignored when seeking an answer regarding the authorship of the attack.
