Israeli ambassador calls commentators regime Miguel Tavares racist

Israeli ambassador Oren Rozenblat called Miguel Tavares racist, after this one dared to publicly disgrace - in the Expresso newspaper - the "orthodox Jews with their black suits and ridiculous braids".

Tavares is the probably the most pathetic face of an ounce imperial country that is now tiny and rickety. The Jew he likes is not the one from the Kotel (Wailing Wall), nor the one from Chabad Lubavitch or the one from Brooklyn, Golders Green, Antwerp. He defines what a true Jew is, the Jew he likes, the Jew who in his eyes is not ridiculous and extremist.

Portugal and its institutions and press act as if it were the Mongol Empire, and there is no check whatsoever on the desire to wound the Jewish world. What is most surprising about Tavares, and the regime in which he operates as he wishes, is the audacity and confidence with which the most cruel statements are made. History teaches statements like these cannot go unpunished forever.

In the same newspaper Expresso, the commentator tried to explain that the Mossad knew about the October 7th genocide, which took place with the approval of the Israeli PM. It was not the first time, it was at least the second time. In 2023 the same guy wrote that "Israel voluntarily sacrificed 1,200 of its citizens to carry out the massacre it is carrying out in Gaza,"

At the time, Tavares added that "The entire people of Israel, or almost all of them, are in solidarity with them, in solidarity with a government of criminals. This will only end when Israel achieves a final solution." Enlightened or suicidal?

Miguel Tavares is not the only one responsible for what he wrote. The editors of Expresso share the same liability as the columnist. The last decade has seen a spate of unpunished attacks on Israel. Expresso has been the number 1.

However, in November 2025, MFE–MediaForEurope, the Italian media giant controlled by the Berlusconi family, signed an agreement to purchase a 32.9% stake in Impresa—the ruined Portuguese media conglomerate that owns the weekly newspaper Expresso and the broadcaster SIC. How the woke communism of Expresso and its teams of commentators will handle this development remains to be seen.

The Berlusconi family—led historically by the late billionaire and former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi—has historically maintained a well-documented, staunchly pro-Israel foreign policy stance during its decades in European politics and media.

Whether Miguel Tavares and his similar colleagues will pay a price for what they said and wrote for years — with such courage and evil —is a question with no known answer today. What is known is that the Jewish Community of Porto, through its president Gabriel Senderowicz, has previously asked Portuguese society—via the Observador newspaper, Dec 2025 —whether Miguel Tavares might himself be a corrupt man serving a regime capable of using every legal and illegal means to attack Jews.

In 2022, the regime dared to illegally invade the country's largest synagogue in a case that constituted one of the biggest flops in modern antisemitic history.
