IDF Soldier who in an act of madness destroyed a statue of Jesus could face prison

The destruction of a statue of Jesus in the Lebanese village of Debel by an IDF soldier last week led to strong condemnations and apologies from top Israeli leaders, and IDF Northern Command launched a criminal investigation into the incident which could result in the soldier's arrest and in his expulsion from the armed forces.

Following the release of a viral photo showing the soldier striking the statue with a sledgehammer, Israeli officials explicitly distanced the state and the military from the criminal act committed by an individual who apparently is a mentally ill person. Israel Defense Forces launched a criminal investigation by the Northern Command and stated the conduct was "wholly inconsistent" with its values and committed to helping the local community restore the statue.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: Stated he was "stunned and saddened" by the incident and condemned it "in the strongest terms". He characterized the act as being "completely contrary to Israeli values" and vowed that the soldier would face "harsh action". Also Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar labeled the act "shameful and disgraceful" and issued a formal apology to "every Christian whose feelings were hurt" and asserted that Israel respects all sacred symbols.

The official diplomatic response from the Israeli government was one of swift condemnation, apology, and a promise of legal accountability. Israel's condemnation aligns with its strategic aim to maintain good relations with Christian communities worldwide, including Lebanese Christians.

At a time when the main agents of global antisemitism use every trick in the book to undermine Jewish life in the diaspora and the legitimacy of the Jewish state, nothing can be worse than the acts of madness committed by Jews with mental health issues.

History has always been like this. The Jewish minority is often negatively affected by individual acts. The destruction of the statue is already becoming a political fact and will cause much damage for decades to an entire population of 14 million.
