“Expresso needs to tell the truth to the Portuguese people,” says Israel’s Ambassador to Portugal

Israel’s Ambassador to Portugal, Oren Rozenblat, is closely monitoring the Portuguese media’s coverage of Israel and has criticized what he describes as a biased editorial line among media outlets.

In recent statements on social media, the ambassador drew attention to the way Expresso reported on the serious incident involving a Flydubai flight that was targeted in an attempted terrorist attack carried out by the co-pilot. A major tragedy was averted thanks to the swift response and cooperation of the crew and passengers.

Despite the gravity of the incident — not only for Israel, but for the international community as a whole — Expresso gave the story limited prominence, placing it only on page five under the headline “Incident on flight under investigation.”

The choice of wording, according to the ambassador, downplays the nature of the incident and fails to highlight from the outset that it was a terrorist attack. Rozenblat argues that this approach contributes to a biased narrative and criticizes what he sees as a broader pattern of unfavorable coverage of Israel.

“Expresso needs to tell the truth to the Portuguese people,” Oren Rozenblat concluded.
