The Jewish Community of Lisbon hosted a welcome cocktail for the new Israeli Ambassador to Portugal, Oren Rozenblat, and his wife, Rivka Rozenblat. The reception took place last Wednesday, December 11th, in a venue on one of the floors of the Ventura Terra building, located near the Shaaré Tikva Synagogue. The event was attended by approximately 40 guests.
After David Botelho, president of the community, gave his remarks, Ambassador Rozenblat addressed the gathering with a candid message: more needs to be done for Israel than has been done in the past. He emphasized the need for stronger support for Israel, noting that the community possesses significant financial resources, much of which stems from the nationality certificates issued to Israelis. He also highlighted the ongoing tragedy faced by hostages held by Hamas and called for urgent action to deepen the community's involvement with Israel.

David Botelho spoke again, reflecting on how the Jewish community in Lisbon has undergone significant changes compared to six years ago. While he did not specify the nature of these changes, he stressed the importance of looking toward the future while remaining anchored in the past. A future without honoring the past is a fragile present headed towards spiritual death.
To conclude the session, Rabbi Aaron, who is substituting for Rabbi Ruben Suiza during his vacation, recited the Birkat Hacohen prayer.
