New Head of Mission of the Polish Embassy in Portugal visits the Holocaust Museum of Oporto
The new Head of Mission of the Polish Embassy in Lisbon, Ms. Dorota Barys, visited the Holocaust Museum of Oporto on Friday during her stay in the city.
Ms. Barys was welcomed by the Holocaust Museum’s Director, Dr. Michael Rothwell, who provided her with a overview of the institution’s history and mission. During the visit, she had the opportunity to attend a concert by the Mekor Haim Choir. Yonah Yaphe, a choir representative and member of the Jewish Community of Oporto, greeted her in Polish and explained the context of the songs performed - some of which have strong connections to Poland.

Ms. Dorota Barys expressed great admiration for the museum, emphasizing the significance of its message, which reaches thousands of students across Portugal each year. She was particularly struck by the phrase “Europe, never again!” featured in an excerpt from the film "Sefarad" shown at the museum. The message reminded her of the different perspectives held by Jews in Mexico regarding Europe, a country where she had previously served as a diplomat.
