Azerbaijan foils iranian plot to assassinate country’s Rabbi

Azerbaijan’s security forces thwarted an Iranian plot to assassinate Rabbi Shneor Segal, who serves at the Chabad of Azerbaijan. Iranian agents had recruited criminals to monitor and attack both the rabbi and a Jewish center.

Authorities arrested the suspects before the attack could be carried out. According to The Washington Post, the plot was foiled in January. The two would-be terrorists were promised $200,000 for the crime.

The incident echoes the assassination of Rabbi Zvi Kogan in the United Arab Emirates in late November 2024. Last month, three Uzbek nationals were sentenced to death in connection with that case.
