The Mekor Haim Choir

The Mekor Haim Choir is proud to host the Klezmer band Taybelekh from the United Kingdom as part of the Porto Klezmer Project in a special concert at the Holocaust Museum of Porto on Friday, 21 November 2025 at 3 p.m.

The Klezmer Project is the initiative of David Hayes from Sheffield in the UK. The idea is to introduce audiences to the lively world of Klezmer, the traditional folk music of the Jews of Eastern Europe. The concerts demonstrate vocal, instrumental and Klezmer dance, with active participation by the audience.

An important addition to the concerts is an exhibition of ‘The Righteous Gentiles’, showing the vital role played by good people of many nations who saved the lives of Jews during the Holocaust.

The concert at the Holocaust Museum will feature songs in Ladino and Yiddish, performed together by Taybelekh (which means ‘Little Doves’) and the Mekor Haim Choir, conducted by Leonardo Mendonça. These include La Rosa Enfloresce, sung in Hebrew and Ladino and Oyfn Pripichok and Rozhinkes mit Mandlen, sung in Yiddish.

Taybelekh consists of Phil Tomlinson on vocals, guitar, Ilana Cravitz on violin, David Moreson on clarinet, Maya Brown on violin and vocals, Josie Wexler on viola and vocals, and Theo Malka-Wishart on double bass,

The band will also perform at the Clube de Fenianos in Porto on 20 November at 22 November. Tickets are available through the website at www.taybelekh.org/tickets and all proceeds will go to support the educational work of the Holocaust Museum in Porto.
