Six Israeli hostages were released this Saturday, including Omer Shem Tov. The Jewish Community of Oporto has already responded to his release.
"Omer's return to his family holds even more significance after learning about the strangulation of little Ariel and baby Kfir, as well as the cynical exchange of their mother Shiri’s body. What has happened since October 7, 2023—alongside the forced release of some hostages in deplorable conditions—was not an isolated event in history but rather a repetition of what has happened to Jews of all ages for centuries and across all geographies: indiscriminate killings and kidnappings, and the celebration and mockery of the victims’ tragic fates, all met with the complicit silence of many," stated a communiqué from the Jewish Community of Oporto.
Omer Shem Tov is a citizen who was in the process of obtaining Portuguese nationality and, according to the Portuguese embassy in Israel, has now acquired it.
