The Jewish Community of Oporto receives families of Hamas hostages.

On the evening of Wednesday, 7 February, the Jewish Community of Oporto received a group comprising seven families of Hamas hostages, who were accompanied by Israel’s Ambassador to Portugal, Dor Shapira.

The families, who all have links with Portugal, spoke of the dramatic times they have been living since 7 October. In the audience were hundreds of members of the Jewish Community of Oporto, who were greatly moved by the stories.

In his speech, the president of the Jewish Community of Oporto, Gabriel Senderowicz, explained the institution’s fight to liberate the hostages of Sephardic origin. He ended with a message of hope: “Trust to the end in the liberation of your loved ones. If our community can do more for you, please tell us what you need”.

In the audience were hundreds of members of the Jewish Community of Oporto.

Israel’s Ambassador to Portugal, Dor Shapira, escorting the group throughout the country, declared: “All of us present today are soldiers in this war”.

The meeting ended with a kosher dinner in the Synagogue Library.
