Israel's New Ambassador to Portugal, Oren Rozenblat, visited the town of Belmonte on Wednesday and Thursday to participate in the Festival of Lights.
The Israeli official praised the historical resilience of Jewish communities like Belmonte, describing it as the village where the “strongest Jews in the world” reside. Ambassador Rozenblat attended the lighting of the first candle on the Chanukah menorah on Wednesday, the 25th, and was officially received at City Hall on Thursday, the 26th.

At City Hall, the ambassador met with the Mayor of Belmonte, António Dias Rocha, in a gathering that also included members of the local Jewish community. The visit highlighted the historical and cultural ties between Belmonte and its rich Sephardic heritage.
The delegation also visited the Jewish Museum of Belmonte, a key institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of Jews in Portugal.
