“Loulé on the Timeline” in Conferences

This presentation focuses on the presence of Jews in the Kingdom of the Algarve up until the general expulsion of December 1492, with emphasis on documentation related to Silves and Loulé.

The importance of this documentation lies in the fact that, for both communities, there is fundamental or even unique information about the lives of medieval Jews, especially given the scarcity of sources produced by or about them. In their rarity, these documents provide valuable insights into the daily lives of these communities, their economic, social, and cultural experiences, and concrete traces of their linguistic identity as bearers of difference.
