In the late afternoon of Monday, October 27, representatives of seven religions gathered at the Bonfim Parish Council building in Oporto to discuss the theme “Solidarity as a Living Expression of God’s Love”. The event, which brought together around 40 participants, was marked by moments of reflection, sharing, and dialogue among the city’s diverse faith traditions.

The initiative was promoted by the Commission for Interfaith Dialogue of Porto, which since early 2023 has organized monthly meetings bringing together members of different religious communities. These gatherings, usually held at the São Nicolau Parish Center, have helped strengthen bonds of friendship and mutual understanding among the faiths present in the city.

Represented at the event were the Jewish, Catholic, Muslim, Krishna Consciousness, Bahá’í, Buddhist, and Latter-day Saint (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Mormons) communities. Each representative shared their faith’s perspective on solidarity as a practical expression of divine love and commitment to others.

The president of B'nai B'rith Portugal, Gabriela Cantergi, discussed the concepts of tzedakah and tikun olam, emphasizing the importance of social justice and repairing the world. “Every month, members of the different religions present in Oporto gather to discuss topics common to their traditions, in an atmosphere of respect and dialogue. This initiative reminds us that it is possible to build together and that unity is always beneficial for all of us” she told PJN.
