On September 9, the Jewish Community of Oporto and the Fundación HispanoJudía hosted the Madrid premiere of the film “The 2,000 Kidnapped Jewish Children” at the Espacio Ronda auditorium. The documentary, which sheds light on a little-known episode experienced by Spanish Jews in Portugal, was screened before an audience of around 120 people.
The event featured notable remarks from David Altaras Hatchwell, President of the Fundación HispanoJudía, Yiftah Curiel, Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of Israel in Spain, and Gabriel Senderowicz, President of the Jewish Community of Oporto. The speakers emphasized the film’s importance as a tool for preserving historical memory and combating antisemitism, stressing that initiatives like this are vital to ensure that episodes of intolerance and persecution are neither ignored nor forgotten.
During the discussion, several members of the audience spoke to express their gratitude for the film’s production and their solidarity with Jewish communities, reaffirming the central role of historical memory. These spontaneous testimonies turned the evening into a moment of shared emotion, underlining how dialogue, education, and remembrance remain essential instruments in the fight against antisemitism.
