In recent years, the Jewish Community of Oporto and Chabad Lubavitch are providing products for Shabbat meals to synagogues in Jerusalem, New Delhi, Bangkok, Buenos Aires, Brooklyn, Moscow, Odessa, Beijing, Sydney, London, Ashdod and Johannesburg that distribute them to needy families. Both organizations are supported by philanthropic Jewish families and having its own financial resources.
Shabbat is a festive day when Jews exercise their freedom from the regular labours of everyday life. It offers an opportunity to contemplate the spiritual aspects of life and to spend time with family. Traditionally, three festive meals are eaten.
The Jewish Community of Oporto's purpose is to support the creation and development of Jewish life and promote a better, fairer and more equitable world, and Chabad Lubavitch is the most dynamic force in Jewish life of the Diaspora. It is a philosophy, a movement, and an organization with over 4,500 full-time emissary families who lead institutions dedicated to the welfare of the Jewish people worldwide. The Chabad representative in Portugal is Rabbi Eli Rosenfeld.
