The Portuguese State maintains unchanged the criminal law on "discrimination and incitement to hatred and violence". The law only provides for and punishes behaviors that attack national minorities (immigrants), racial minorities (blacks and gypsies), religious minorities (Muslims) and sexual minorities (gays and LGBT). Jews are outside the range of protection. They are not a race. They are not a religion. They are not diverted. They have two hundred nationalities.

In 2018, Parliament did not accept inclusion in the definition, as proposed by the Oporto Jewish Community and Prof. Rui Pereira, the "national, cultural and religious minority". Jews don't count. There is no recognition on the part of the agents of the political system that there is a problem with the Jews and an additional problem with the State of Israel.

In the meantime, it was the State that inaugurated the Hamas embassy, where the laws of the terrorist movement apply (2025). It was the State that turned a blind eye to an attempt to poison Israelis at a festival (2025). It was the government that collaborated with the appearance in the newspapers of "lists of Jews" in Porto associated with the housing crisis (2024).

It was also the political power that remained silent in the face of the act of vandalism that targeted the largest synagogue in the country, in Porto, whose façade was defaced with apartheid inscriptions (2023). It was the government that, due to a "Palestinian issue", terminated a law in favor of the Jews, because it did not want Jews and much less rich Israeli Jews (2022).

It was the State that attempted to kill the only Portuguese Jewish community with a vibrant religious and cultural life, in a blatant imitation of the Soviet Union in doctrines and methods (2022). It was the State that trampled on religious freedom by slanderously pronouncing on the value of a Jewish community and on the Jewish identity of people, including the granddaughter of the “Portuguese Dreyfus” (2022). It was the political and media mainstream that used the war in Ukraine to try to destroy the community that was to be overthrown (2022), and that's why now the Jewish museum of Oporto presents a letter sent to Mr Abel Benjamin Rocha da Leiva Leja Rosa Abramovich.

Indeed, it was the government that promoted anonymous letters and fake news against the Jewish community without even being heard once, and then ordered the opening of a "criminal investigation" based on nothing, ie, based on those news and letters (2022). It was the government that, through its politically appointed officials, ordered the police to illegally invade the largest synagogue in the country and one of the largest in Europe (2022). It was the government that, thanks to that illegal invasion, humiliated the community throughout the country and promoted the appearance in newspapers and social media of tens of thousands of hate messages (2022).

In addition, it was the government that was indirectly responsible for the sabotage of a car that miraculously did not result in the murder of the young Jewish leader Ilan Cohen and his wife Helen Cohen, who had been the first signatories of a petition to parliament (2022). It was the government that commissioned professional thieves to carry out the night-time robberies that targeted a lawyer from the Jewish community, Mónica Gomes (2022-2023), and the former president of SIRESP - Government agency, Sandra Perdigão Neves (2022). The first robbery occurred one day after the opening of that empty "criminal investigation" devoid of objective content and aimed at finding "evidence" incriminating the Jewish community. The second robbery aimed to find "evidence" against a wealthy Franco-Israeli Sephardic Jew in the same month that he was unsuccessfully sought by the police at the Porto synagogue.

The murder of Jews is unfortunately expected, which will inevitably occur in this grim scenario. The few who claim to fight antisemitism are reduced to condemnations of graffiti, ie, to condemnations of groups of politically fanatical people who act on their own. The system is all rigged from the base. The institutions of the State and the media mainstream act according to this thought.
