The Ambassador of Israel to Portugal, Oren Rozenblat, took part in the inauguration of the exhibition “Saved Lives”, in a ceremony presided over by the President of the Assembly of the Republic, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco. The exhibition is on display at the Casa do Parlamento, the seat of the Assembleia da República Portuguesa.

The exhibition pays tribute to Portuguese diplomats who saved Jews during the Holocaust, recalling the example of Aristides de Sousa Mendes, Carlos Sampaio Garrido and Alberto Branquinho. These diplomats issued visas to thousands of refugees, defying official instructions and risking their careers to protect human lives.

In his remarks, Oren Rozenblat expressed deep gratitude for the courageous actions of these Portuguese diplomats, emphasizing that their legacy remains relevant today. The Ambassador stressed that each of us — and especially every diplomat — should ask ourselves what we would have done had we been in the place of those brave men.
