Foreign Minister Israel Katz declares UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres a persona non grata in Israel

Israel's Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, declared today that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is "persona non grata" and is not authorized to enter into the country:

"Anyone who is unable to unequivocally condemn Iran's criminal attack on Israel is not worthy to set foot on Israeli soil. This is an Israel-hating Secretary-General, who gives support to terrorists, rapists and murderers. Guterres will be remembered as a stain on the history of the United Nations."

The decision comes after turbulent days in the Middle East. After Israel's entry into Lebanon on Monday, Guterres expressed his concern about the situation on X/Twitter and called for the integrity of the territory to be preserved. However, the same was not done yesterday when Israel was attacked by more than 150 missiles from Iran. On that occasion, Guterres called for a ceasefire.

Katz's decision also takes into account Guterres' stance following the October 7 massacre. The UN Secretary-General did not condemn the horrific massacre and the sexual atrocities committed by Hamas, whom he does not even consider a terrorist group.
