On April 26, the Mayor of Carregal do Sal, Paulo Catalino Ferraz, signed a Cultural Cooperation Protocol with the municipalities of Almeida and Belmonte.
The document formalizes the creation of the "Route of Tolerance, Freedom and Peace", linking Vilar Formoso – Frontier of Peace – Memorial to the Refugees and Consul Aristides de Sousa Mendes, the Jewish Museum of Belmonte, and the Aristides de Sousa Mendes Museum. The route aims to strengthen connections between these sites and offer an integrated experience that deepens understanding of historical legacy and cultural diversity.

To achieve this, the three municipalities committed to various actions, such as creating an interactive subsite for the Route; producing promotional materials and merchandise; developing a promotional film; organizing an annual cultural event; launching educational and training programs; cultural exchange programs between museums; film screenings and debates; and partnerships between local artists through mural and graffiti projects.
Joining this Route marks another step in the noble mission of promoting the values embodied by the Consul born in Cabanas de Viriato, Carregal do Sal, and is expected to attract even more visitors to the Aristides de Sousa Mendes Museum.
