On September 28, at 4:30 PM, the Estação das Artes, in Mirandela, will host the presentation of Jorge José Alves Ferreira’s book: “The Jews in Trás-os-Montes: 300 Years Resisting the Inquisition and 500 Years of Assimilation. The Case of Rebordelo - Vinhais.”
The work is the result of extensive research on the Jewish presence in Trás-os-Montes, highlighting the history of resistance, faith, and resilience of the community of Rebordelo, in Vinhais, in the face of persecution by the Inquisition and the long process of cultural assimilation.
Born in Póvoa de Agrações, in the municipality of Chaves, in 1959, Jorge José Alves Ferreira has built his academic path in the field of History. He holds a degree in History from Universidade Aberta in Lisbon and a master’s degree in Multidisciplinary Portuguese Studies.
The book contributes to deepening historical knowledge about Trás-os-Montes, preserving the memory of a community that shaped the cultural identity of the region.
