On Monday, May 5, the mayors of Tel Aviv and Berlin signed a sister city agreement, strengthening cooperation and friendship between the two cities. The ceremony took place in the German capital and carried a particularly symbolic meaning.
"I am pleased to announce the establishment of a Twin Cities partnership with Germany’s capital, Berlin – a partnership based not only on historical memory, but also on the values of democracy, freedom, and tolerance, which are so crucial in the world today.", declared Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai.
"We Germans have a special responsibility for Jewish life, but also a special responsibility to always steadily defend Israel's right to existence", said Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner.

On his return to Tel Aviv, he will be accompanied by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier — a further sign of the deepening partnership between the two nations.
