Graffiti near Jewish sites in Lisbon
Messages inciting hatred against Jews and Israel have been appearing in different cities across Portugal. The most recent case was reported by the Israeli Embassy in Portugal this Monday, after the discovery of graffiti with the inscription “death to Nazi-Zionism” in central Lisbon, near sites of Jewish heritage.
The embassy warned of the growing trend of antisemitism in the country: “Unfortunately, the global rise in antisemitism has not spared Portugal. Recently we have witnessed more and more cases of antisemitic statements and calls for the murder and violence against Jews and Israelis in Portugal,” the diplomatic mission stated.
Graffiti found in Oporto
Lisbon is not an isolated case. In Oporto, graffiti with Nazi symbols, including swastikas, and phrases such as “death to the IDF” have also been reported. These incidents have already been recorded and reported by the Jewish Community of Porto to the competent authorities.
