The Luso-Portuguese Association for Israel (ALPI) has placed a billboard at the Relógio roundabout in Lisbon, thanking the President of the United States, Donald Trump, for his role in promoting peace in Israel.
The tribute comes after the peace plan mediated by Trump, which enabled the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza for more than two years, as well as the return of the bodies of deceased hostages, a process that is still ongoing.
The ceasefire negotiated by the former president took place after more than two years of intense conflict, triggered by Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7.
Among the hostages who were released and returned to Israel were three Portuguese-Israeli citizens, as well as the body of a fourth citizen who died in captivity.
In a statement published on Facebook, ALPI highlighted:
"The Luso-Portuguese Association for Israel expresses its deep recognition and admiration for the firm leadership and diplomatic vision of President Donald J. Trump, whose strategic intervention was decisive in securing the release of Israeli hostages kidnapped by Hamas. His approach, combining strength with intelligent negotiation based on principles of justice, security, and humanity, reaffirms the essential role of American leadership in defending freedom and human life."
