European Jewish Association

The Jewish Community of Oporto celebrated the European Day of Jewish Culture, on which the Synagogue, the Jewish Museum, the Holocaust Museum and kosher restaurants were open to the general public.

A column by writer Herman Brusselmans published in Flemish weekly satirical magazine Humo contained such disgusting antisemitic and hate-filled remarks.

“You cannot imprison the Jewish faith” say European Jewish Association, calling for Rabbi’s immediate release.

It’s “absolutely” possible that a far-right party could be good for Israel yet bad for the Jews, said the European Jewish Association chairman.

In the sixties, the song was sung there by the then rabbi of Oporto, Srul Finkelstein. But then he was alone.

Memorial was recently installed in the local Jewish community's new cemetery.
