A group of 50 people, including the Israeli ambassador to Portugal, Oren Rosemblat, gathered at Largo São Domingos in downtown Lisbon on Sunday, November 10th, for a vigil against anti-Semitism. The event is a response to the violent clashes that took place in Amsterdam on Thursday, November 7th, between Maccabi Tel Aviv fans and groups of local residents.

The vigil was organized by journalist Helena Ferro de Gouveia, who lived in Germany for two decades. She described it as an act of solidarity in response to what she calls an anti-Semitic offensive against the Jewish people, emphasizing that this gathering is not political but humanitarian.

“We are here in solidarity with the Jewish community in Portugal and around the world,” she declared.

The vigil lasted around 40 minutes, ending with the national anthems of Portugal and Israel.
