German lawyer and activist Karoline Preisler has been awarded the Eugen-Kogon Prize, one of Germany’s most prestigious honors, given to individuals who stand out in promoting democratic values, freedom, and human rights. Preisler—who is neither Jewish nor personally connected to the Middle East conflict—has been a steadfast, courageous, and empathetic voice in support of Israel and the release of Israeli hostages.
Her consistent and peaceful presence at public demonstrations, often symbolized by the rose she carries in her hand, has earned her respect and admiration both in Germany and internationally.
During a recent pro-Palestinian protest in Berlin, Preisler was assaulted by a demonstrator who struck her with a flagpole. Police intervened quickly, preventing further attacks. The Simon Wiesenthal Center praised Preisler’s bravery and the swift response of the Berlin police, emphasizing the importance of her advocacy—especially as someone not directly involved in the conflict, but deeply committed to universal human rights.
