Rabbi Menachem and Chana Wagner lead efforts to establish a thriving jewish community in one of Europe’s most popular destinations.

The Chabad movement noted the "somber notes" of its annual international gathering, given the recent murder of Rabbi Zvi Kogan in the UAE.

"The murder of Tzvi Kogan, of blessed memory, is a heinous act of antisemitic terrorism", said the Israeli Prime Minister's Office and Foreign Ministry.

Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson and his wife, Chaya Mushka, disembarked from the ship in Staten Island, New York, with hundreds of other refugees from Nazi-occupied Europe.

"We honor the Rebbe’s birthday every year, but we know this year is different," the U.S. president stated.

The trip was punctuated by a warm Jewish atmosphere, prayers in the Synagogue of 770 and at the Ohel of the Rebbe.
